The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) results are yet to be declared but the education department has started gearing up for the First Year Junior College (FYJC) online admission process. The deputy director's office has declared the intake capacity for this year's online admission process as 1,49,808, excluding the in-house, minority and management seats.

This year, the department has excluded Bhiwandi, Vasai, Virar and the Panvel rural area from the list of online admission process. However, the colleges will have to immediately update their admission information on the website in order to show transparency in the process.

BB Chavan, deputy director of school education, said, "The admissions of in-house, minority or management quota will not happen online. But from this year, the colleges will have to immediately update their data of admissions of in-house, minority and management seats on the website in order to show transparency in the admission process. The number of seats for FYJC online admission this year shows a decline in figure because Bhiwandi and the Panvel rural area colleges have been excluded from the process."

According to education department officials, since college students from those areas don't take admissions in Mumbai colleges nor do students from Mumbai region opt for colleges in those areas those areas have been excluded from the online admission process.

For this exclusion, the number of seats available online shows a decline as compared to last year. Last year, it was 1,62,901. However, academicians claim that the number of seats this year have increased. Tukaram Shiware, chairman, Association of Non-Government Colleges, Mumbai (ANGC), said, "This year, though some areas have been excluded from the Mumbai region online admission process, the number of seats for online in Mumbai have increased from 5,000 to 10,000."

Seats for FYJC admission

Online admission seats - 1,49,808
In-house quota seats – 35,398
Minority quota seats – 70,518
Management quota seats – 13,448
Total number of seats – 2,69,172
