A 34-year-old trade analyst was booked by police for alleged drunken driving and injuring a constable by running through the barricades of the nakabandi set up at the Mafatlal Bath junction in Chowpatty in the wee hours on Thursday. The driver, identified as Bhavin Shah, was driving back to his Churchgate residence after meeting friends at Kemps Corner when the mishap took place.

"Our constables were on patrol duty near the nakabandi set up at the Mafatlal Bath junction for nabbing drunk drivers and rash drivers at 2 am when they tried to stop a speeding Mercedes (DD-03-H-2692). The driver did not stop the car, but drove through the barricades. One of the barricades came loose and hit a constable. The constable sustained injuries on his head and back. The police van followed the car and managed to intercept it," said an officer of Marine Drive police station. The constable was rushed to GT Hospital.

"The breath analyzer test revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to a hospital for tests. We have seized the car and have booked Shah under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and 185 (driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) and 134 (duty of driver in case of accident and injury to a person) of the Motor Vehicle Act," another officer added. "The accused was later released on bail. We will be seeking a report from the RTO." The officer said.
