According to the Dindoshi police, the incident took place around 4am am near Lucky Hotel junction on the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road. Officers said the five collegians, who were travelling in a Maruti Ertiga car, are residents of Yeshwant Nagar in Goregaon (West).
Driving under the influence of alcohol proved costly for five friends out on a joyride in the early hours of Saturday. One died and the others were injured after their car hit a divider and crashed into an iron railing in Goregaon (East).
According to the Dindoshi police, the incident took place around 4am am near Lucky Hotel junction on the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road. Officers said the five collegians, who were travelling in a Maruti Ertiga car, are residents of Yeshwant Nagar in Goregaon (West).
"The youth driving was under the influence of alcohol and is believed to have lost control of the vehicle. They drove from Goregaon (West) and took the Gokul bridge to go towards Gokuldham when the accident happened. The car climbed on the two-foot-high divider and took a 360-degree turn, finally crashing into the iron railing of the footpath."
The deceased has been identified as Kishore Tiruvaa (18), who died due to head injuries. Omkar Jadhav (18) has got his elbow fractured in the accident. The police have arrested the accused driver identified as Atul Chari (26), who owns the car.
The area's residents, who saw the accident, alerted the police control room, after which a team from Dindoshi police station was sent to the spot. The injured were taken to Siddharth hospital, where the deceased was declared brought dead. A medical test has been done on all the five.
The Dindoshi police have registered a case under section 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of the IPC. Other sections applied are 279 (rash driving), 338 (grievous hurt) and 185 (drunk driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
