Doctor, hospital staffers beaten inside Central police station

According to Central police, the mob was angry that the doctors delayed the procedure in conducting the medical examination of two persons who had indulged in assaulting each other

A mob of more than 20 people vandali​s​ ed ​the ​Central hospital at ​​Ulhasnagar and assaulted on duty medical officer and the hospital staffers. The Central police have arrested one person and have launched a hunt to arrest other accused in the case.

Dr. Shashikant Dodhe, 42​, the medical officer present on duty when a mob of more than 20 people arrived at the hospital for the medical report after​,​ examin​ed​ the two persons in an assault case and demanded a strict report. This led to an altercation between the two fighting parties ​which ​​eventually ​ended in vandalism and assault on the public servants.

"The mob slapped and kicked me and also damaged the public property. They were creating chaos inside the hospital premises and when the staffers asked them to keep quiet they started abusing and assaulting us​,​" said Shashikant Dodhe, complainant.

According to Central police, the mob was angry that the doctors delayed the procedure in conducting the medical examination of two persons who had indulged in assaulting each other.

"We had sent our police team to calm the situation but the crowd went berserk and also assaulted our policemen. The crowd had increased and we had to give them stern warning to disperse the crowd", said VC Dolas, Senior Inspector, Central police station.

"We have registered a case under sections 353 (assaulting or obstructing public servant from conducting his duty),​ ​427 (mischief causing damage), 143​ ​(unlawful assembly),147​ ​(rioting), 149​ ​(every member of unlawful assembly), 323​ ​(voluntarily causing hurt), 504​ ​(intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and under relevant sections of Criminal law (Amendment) Act, The Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act, 2010​,​" said Dolas.

"We have arrested one accused in the case and 19 ​other ​persons will be arrested soon​,​" said Dolas.
