In a shocking incident, a couple and their 16-year-old daughter were found hanging in their apartment in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. According to the police, Jasmin Patel ,45, a doctor, and her daughter Oshin ,16, ended their lives at the Indira Vihar Residency in Sector 35 of Kamothe.

Indrajeet Dutta, 50, her live-in partner, who was not in the residence at the time of the incident, ended his life after coming to see the bodies of the two later. Incidentally, Oshin turned 16 on Sunday.

The three bodies were found by the maid, who opened the flat with a duplicate key. The maid rang the door bell several times, but there was no response.

The Kamothe police believe financial crisis to be the reason. The police said that the family had not even paid the flat rent. "They were even unable to pay the salary of the maid and was asked to vacate the flat by the owner," said Ashok Naik, Senior Inspector, Kamother police station.

The police found three suicide notes from the flat – one by Patel and the other two by Oshin and Dutta. In her suicide note, Patel said that she has been ill for several months and was not interested in living any longer. She also wrote that she does not want to leave her daughter behind.

Oshin said in her note that she was fed up with frequent fights in the family over money and want to end her life.

According to the Kamothe police, Dutta's suicide note said that he brought down the bodies, and he too did not want to live. Patel's letter also instructed family members to donate their bodies to the anatomy department of the KEM Hospital.

"During investigations, we found that the man has been jobless for the past several months and the woman was running a clinic nearby," said a police officer from the Kamothe police station.

"We are yet to trace the family members of the deceased and the bodies have been kept in the mortuary. Prima facie, we have learnt that the woman was married earlier and had a daughter from the first marriage. We will be able to ascertain the facts only after family members come forward," said Naik.

Hemant Nagrale, Commissioner of Police, Navi Mumbai, said: "We have registered a case of accidental death and the post-mortem has been done."
