The arrest of Indian Police Service officer G Vijay Krishnan Yadav is on the cards after the Aurangabad bench of the High Court on Thursday rejected his anticipatory bail plea, said sources from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). It is alleged that the IPS officer had demanded Rs 3 lakh from a man facing theft charges to dilute his case.

"Yadav's anticipatory bail has been rejected by the court. Earlier the court had instructed the ACB not to arrest him before the final hearing over his anticipatory bail plea, now that his bail has been rejected, we would arrest him in the case," said an ACB official, probing the case.

The ACB had recently got voice sample conversation recorded of Yadav and had been sent the same to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for their expert report. If FSL report comes positive, then this would be a clinching evidence against the officer.

According to the ACB, around nine months ago, an offence of theft was registered against the 34-year-old transporter (complainant in the ACB case), at the Tivasa Police Station at Amravati. Yadav, who was then posted as a probationary Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Amravati, through his suspected aide Sunny Singh Bugai (34), had allegedly demanded a bribe from the complainant for not arresting him and diluting charges against him while presenting them before the court. The bribe was to be paid in three installments.

The victim had paid him the money then, but still, Yadav, who was posted as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Itwara Division in Nanded, kept demanding more money (Rs 2 lakh). The victim then lodged a complaint with the ACB, which laid a trap on January 30 and caught Bugai while accepting an instalment of Rs 1 lakh of the bribe amount. Bugai had claimed that he had accepted the bribe at the behest of Yadav, said an ACB official.

Yadav, a 2015 batch IPS officer, was placed under suspension by the government in February this year.
