Sudden transfer of a police inspector from Shivaji Park police station to the central region police control room has left many wondering the reason behind it.
On October 3, police inspector Mrityunjay Hiremath got an impromptu order got of his transfer with immediate effect to the regional control room due to requirement of a police officer to overlook and monitor court cases.
Apparently, the transfer was made few days after an incident that had occurred during Ganeshutsav. On the fifth day of the immersion at Shivaji Park, two drunk men allegedly manhandled an on-duty female and a male constable.
When the two accused were brought to the police station and a case was being registered against them, an Indian Police Service officer intervened and asked the two men be let off with a warning. Hiremath, however, argued with the officer and stood his ground for a case to be registered against the two accused.
Commenting on this issue, Hiremath said, "I did have a verbal spat with the superior officer. I was repeatedly asked to let the accused, and so was the Senior Police Inspector."
He added: "If it happens with the civilians, we always register a complaint, but if a police personnel is manhandled, and if a lady constable is shedding tears in front of me for being molested, how fair would it be if I let go of the accused?"
Rubbishing the issue, Additional commissioner of Police, Central Region, RD Shinde, said, "It is an internal posting to perform a specific task and not a transfer. Also, it is on a temporary basis."
