The consultant appointed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to study and prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for developing Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) in Kurla, Mumbai Central and Bandra will submit the report in a fortnight, confirmed additional municipal commissioner of eastern suburbs.

Vijay Singhal, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) said that the consultant is expected to submit the DPR for SATIS at three stations in a fortnight or three weeks.

In order to streamline pedestrian as well as vehicular movement at railway stations, the project had already received approval from the BMC in 2014-15. The exact reason for the delay is not known however it is believed to involve the Railways.

The development of SATIS will be carried out with the involvement of Railways and MMRDA. The SATIS will be developed on the lines of Thane station where it was implemented in 2009 and it is quite successful. Civic officials, including assistant commissioner of L ward, officials from the BMC's Bridge department and railway officials made a visit to Thane railway station last year to see SATIS.

Like Thane, Kurla, Mumbai Central and Bandra stations have huge footfall of commuters from the Central and Western line. "The premises of these stations are one of the most congested with footfall as well as vehicular movements," said an official from the Bridge department of BMC.

Singhal said that they have planned to develop SATIS at five railway stations. However, it will be started with three stations.

As part of the SATIS project, the BMC will make certain changes and will connect the foot-overbridge with the bus stand similar to Thane railway station. However, a senior BMC official said that shifting commercial establishments near railway stations will be a difficult task as they have been doing their business since 1960 in Kurla.
