Decomposed body of a 30-year-old woman was found in a flat in Malad on Tuesday. The police probe has so far revealed that excessive consumption of liquor and smoking could have led to the woman's death.

The deceased has been identified as Meeta Chandan Batta. She stayed alone on the seventh floor flat of Shiv Shakti building at Ahinsa Road in Malad (W).

According to the police, on Tuesday afternoon, Batta's neighbours had complained of foul smell coming from Batta's flat. The police then rushed to the spot along with fire brigade officials.

"The officials then broke open the main door of Batta's flat and discovered her decomposed body inside. After conducting a panchnama, her body was sent to Shatabdi Hospital for post mortem. Priliminary probe has revealed that Batta was addicted to alcohol and smoking and also had kidney ailment," said an officer from Malad police station.

He added that nobody had spotted Batta since Tuesday last week. "So far, there is nothing suspicious about her death. We have informed Batta's aunt about her death. We have registered an accidental death case. The post mortem report will clarify the actual cause of death," the officer said.
