After a few years, the Dahisar (E)-Andheri (E) Metro line-VII is likely to be extended up to the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport's (CSIA) Terminal-2, so that it can be integrated with the underground Colaba-Bandra-Seepz line-3 passing from the airport area.

At the moment, the state authorities – Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) – are working on Metro-VII and Metro-III corridors, respectively.

"The line can continue elevated from the Andheri metro station. Thereafter, it will have to go underground, as there is an air funnel just next to the airport's runway, as well as integrate the line with the 33.5km Colaba-Bandra-Seepz metro corridor," said a senior MMRDA official. Air funnel is a defined area in the airspace, within which an aircraft is supposed to fly. Any intrusion into the air funnel is a safety lapse, as it may result in collision with the approaching plane.

Integrating or connecting Dahisar (E)-Andheri (E) route with the underground line will allow commuters to travel to south Mumbai via Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and also up to Seepz, another business district. Earlier, the MMRDA was contemplating to extend 16.5km Dahisar (E)-Andheri (E) line right up to BKC. With MMRC's Metro-III already taking shape, however, it will only mean duplicating of the Metro lines, as they will ply parallel to each other.

Therefore, the extension plan has been cut short and will link only with the international airport terminal. Additionally, the operations of domestic aircraft carriers, too, have partially shifted to Terminal-2.

Three Metro stations are proposed to come up on the Metro-VII alignment at the airport complex – Sahar Road, Domestic Airport and International Airport stations.
