Dahanu couple 'provoke tantrik' to consume poison, end life

The couple suspected that due to animosity, the tantrik indulged in black magic which hampered his wife from conceiving. Hence, they assaulted the tantrik and pushed him to end life.

A 60-year-old self-styled godmans, recognised as local tantrik from Dahanu, allegedly consumed poison and ended life after a couple blamed him for indulging in black magic tactics for their miscarriage and inability to give birth to a child.

The couple suspected that due to animosity, the tantrik indulged in black magic which hampered his wife from conceiving. Hence, they assaulted the tantrik and pushed him to end life.

According to Kasa police, the alleged tantrik, Dharma Baswat, a resident of Baswat pada in Kasa, Dahanu, consumed a pesticide called Thaimate. The accused couple Krushna Baswat, 45 and his wife Ranjana, 40 blamed the tantrik for indulging in black magic and superstition to stop birth of child in their house.

"The accused couple were unhappy as they could not produce a child and were blaming the deceased for indulging in black magic and they assaulted and harassed him which pushed the man to end his life", said an official from Kasa police station.

"The couple often indulged in frequent fights with the deceased. The man consumed pesticide and killed himself and we have arrested the couple under section 306(abetment of suicide) and 34(common intent) of the Indian Penal Code and under relevant sections of The Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human sacrifice and other inhuman, Evil and Aghori practices and Black magic act, 2013", said Abbasaheb Patil, Investigating officer, Kasa police station.

He added, the couple has been remanded into police custody for two more days and we are investigating further.
