Barun Kashyap Bhuyan, a city-based creative director who was arrested on October 5 by Amboli police and sent to judicial custody on October 8 was released on a conditional bail from the Arthur Road jail on Friday afternoon. Bhuyan was arrested for registering a false complaint with regards to being a victim of an alleged cow vigilante group in August.

Bhuyan had created an uproar on social media when he posted about his 'tormenting' experience with regards to the alleged cow-vigilantes, of which the police had taken cognisance. However, during interrogation, the police suspected his story to being false, and hence, arrested him for making a false complaint. Speaking to DNA, Bhuyan said, "I stand by my post and I have not manipulated anything." Clarifying on alleged writing the post for a publicity stunt, he said, "I am a middle-class person with a normal life. If I had done this for publicity, I had many opportunities to connect to the media, which I did not do."

The Amboli police registered a case against him under the IPC sections 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups) and 182 (giving false information to a public servant). Commenting that he did not have any intentions of creating a communal dispute, Bhuyan said, "I am a Hindu and I did not have any intentions of creating any communal tension. I was merely venting out the wrong that was done to me."

He further added, "As far as allegations about me cooking up a story for reaching late at work is concerned, I stand by what I posted and my boss is supporting me on that."
