Police might be preaching the citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activity, but when it comes to taking action over such complaints, the policemen seem to be indifferent and unresponsive.

This came to light when Kanakiya police station was informed about an unattended vehicle being parked in the middle of the road opposite St. Xavier's High School in Mira Road. Despite the information, the policemen did not turn up for patrolling from 12am till 10.30am on Wednesday.

The vehicle was found parked opposite St Xavier's School at Shanti Park by residents of the area. Though police was called twice about the unattended vehicle by this reporter, the police did not take any cognizance and the vehicle was found at the same place till 10.30am.

The car was finally taken to the side when its owner — Vinu Deokar — realized that his car was parked in the middle of the road.

One of the security guards of Skyline building at Shanti Park said: "We don't know who parked the car. It was lying unattended and my guess is that the car owner is one of the shopkeepers opposite the school."
Vinu Deokar, owner of the car and one of the shop owners opposite Xavier's school, said: "The car was parked at one corner of the road. I don't know if someone pushed it and brought it in the middle of the road. I took it on the side the moment I came to my shop."

When the first call was made by this reporter at 12.30am, Kanakiya police did not send anyone for patrolling for half an hour. And, when the second call was made the policeman who answered the call said they will send someone to check, but nobody came to the spot till the morning.

Despite repeated calls and message to senior police officer Rajesh Shinde of Kanakiya police station, he remained unavailable for comments.
