The late actor's parents claimed that they had approached higher authorities to look into the case but their pleas went unheard
Addressing a press conference on Friday, parents of late actor Pratyusha Banerjee of Balika Vadhu fame alleged that the police were helping her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh and hence he has conveniently gone absconding.
"Deepak Phatangare, investigating officer and inspector from Bangur Nagar police station, has not investigated the case properly. He has only given us false hopes, saying that the probe will bring out the truth. Phatangare kept on telling us not to blame Rahul for Pratyusha's death as it was a case of suicide and not murder," said Pratyusha's father Shankar Banerjee.
The late actor's parents claimed that they had approached higher authorities to look into the case but their pleas went unheard. "We want the case to be handed over to the CBI with a request that the central agency go through the evidence and reveal the truth behind Pratyusha's death. We strongly feel it is a case of murder and not suicide," Banerjee said, adding that Rahul has been under suspicion from day one but the police could not nail him.
"Rahul was the last person to have spoken to Pratyusha before her death. He was into drugs and was involved in cases of cheating. Also, he had forced Pratyusha to undergo abortion. However, these things were overlooked by the police during their probe. The police gave Rahul enough time to go into hiding," said Banerjee.
The police have recently filed a charge sheet in the case. "We need an answer as to why did the police take such a long time to file the charge sheet against Singh. We have not been given access to the charge sheet yet," he added.
