Completely charred body of male found in pit at Govandi

A completely charred unidentified body of a male was found in a pit near Nirankari Nagar at Shivaji Nagar in Govandi early on Saturday morning. Police said that the body was still burning when the team of officials reached the spot after they were informed by an unknown caller.

According to Shivaji Nagar police, they have registered a case of murder against an unknown person and have sent the body for post-morterm to Sion hospital.

An officer from the station said that it appeared to be case of murder and the body was charred beyond recognition. The officer added: "There was a cloth tied around his neck, so we believe that the deceased was strangulated first and then burnt so that no one can identify the body."

The police pinpoint the location of the murder to be elsewhere, and that the body was brought to the nullah and the set afire. "We can't be sure about the reason behind the murder at this point, but we suspect that the murderer knows about the area very well, as this is a very secluded part of the place, said the officer.
