The problems of Monday at Mumbai sub-urban railway continued on Tuesday as well. Two protests, one at Kalwa and the other at Jogeshwari, affected train services in the morning, leading passengers to a test of time and patience. More such disturbances are expected over the next couple of days, sources in the know of the matter said.

The NCP staged a rail roko' demonstration at Kalwa station at around 8.30am. The Central Railway authorities also received a letter about the protest on October 2.

"We had deployed officials at all entry points of Kalwa station as a preventive measure," said an RPF officer. "There was no effect on the suburban trains as the protestors were made to leave within 2minutes," said Sunil Udasi, Chief PRO, Central Railway. The locals were not part of this political protest, which comes two days before MNS protest planned across suburban rail system on both CR and WR.

Also, around 100 commuters barged into the station master's office at the Jogeshwari station, protesting against the new train timetable, sources said.

Since October 1, the WR had started operations based on a new timetable wherein they managed to float 32 new services.

However, the operators had to curtail halts at several stations, starting from Malad to Jogeshwari stations. "People are unable to board the trains coming from Borivali during peak hours. These trains, starting from Goregaon and Malad were the best options which now has been withdrawn," said Mansoor Darvesh, member, Suburban Rail Users Consultative Committee.

The WR officials stated they could provide a halt for these train services at Jogeshwari, on a condition that they will have to withdraw the halt at Andheri. The locals from Vikhroli too will stage a protest on Wednesday over a demand of an escalator that has been pending for too long.
