With Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar recuperating in Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, the Goa government has decided to curtail the Budget Session of the Goa Assembly to four days. However, state BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar said Parrikar was likely to attend the house on Wednesday and Thursday. Parrikar has been undergoing treatment for mild pancreatitis at Lilavati since Friday.

The Budget Session of the Goa Assembly started on Monday with Governor Mridula Sinha's address.

A minister in the Goa government told DNA, "A vote on account will be approved and the budget will be tabled… to be passed in the Monsoon Session." The minister added that Parrikar was recovering fast.

Tendulkar said Parrikar was likely to fly down to Goa on Tuesday night and attend the Assembly the next two days. "However, we are of the opinion that he must take rest," Tendulkar said.

The BJP parliamentary party also selected Mapusa MLA and former deputy chief minister Francis D'Souza as its group leader in the Assembly in Parrikar's absence. Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) minister Sudin (Ramkrishna) Dhavalikar will hold charge as the leader of the house and was likely to table the budget considering his seniority, in case Parrikar won't be able to not make it to the legislature.

Meanwhile, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on him, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu visited Parrikar. According to hospital sources, the two leaders met for around 15 minutes.

On Sunday, Lilavati Hospital had issued a statement refuting rumours about Parrikar's health condition. "It has been brought to our notice (that) various malicious and misleading reports/rumours are floating around in the electronic/print media with regard to his health," the statement read.

Earlier, a senior BJP leader said if need be, they would also involve specialists from abroad to treat Parrikar.

Parrikar, who was the Defence minister before moving back to Goa in August 2017 to take charge as Chief Minister, is also in charge of the state Finance Department.
