Civic body assures completion of mandatory road work before monsoon

At a time when opposition as well as ruling party is raising question on pending mandatory road repair works as part of monsoon preparation, the Road and Traffic department of BMC reiterated that all road works will be completed by May 31 and only a handful of project road works will be completed latest June 3, 2017.

According to data available with chief engineer of Road and Traffic department of BMC, of the total 415 project roads, works on 307 roads have been completed while works on 97 roads will be completed by May 31. However, work on the remaining 11 roads will be completed by June 3.

Similarly, of the 114 roads under priority I, work on 92 roads have already been completed while remaining 22 roads will be completed by May 31.

According to an official from Road and Traffic department of BMC, under priority II, of 268 roads, work on only 49 roads have completed and by the end of this month, 79 more will be completed.

Of the total 81 roads that fall under damage liability period, work on 74 have been completed and the rest will be completed by May 31.

When the matter of incomplete road work was raised during standing committee meet on Friday, additional municipal commissioner IA Kundan assured members that all mandatory road works for monsoon preparation will be completed on time.

However, when members asked what action will be taken if the work is not completed in time, Kundan said, "The concerned civic officials have already been made aware about the action and if mandatory is not completed in time." However, she did not clarify that what kind of action would be taken.
