The City and Industrial Development Corporation limited (Cidco) has been planing to digitise around five lakh files and make them available in public domain with the aim to bring transparency in their functioning. The work on digitisation will start soon, informed V Radha, joint managing director of Cidco during a function.

Breaking the ideal regulation of keeping files secretive, Radha said the time when files were kept very secretly in offices and no one from outside were accessible to check the status of their works is a passe. He stressed that now, everyone should be given opportunity to check these office files. "Office files are public property and we are just the custodians. They have the right to check the status of their works,"said Radha.

In the last several years, mountain of files are piled up in office and people visiting at the planning authority office have been enquiring about issues as old as 10 years. "We want to streamline all the work and what we do it today should reflect at some place immediately as any one can see if he or she needs," said Radha.

In the days to come, the planning authority will scan around five lakh files and put it on the public domain so that anyone can see by the day development of work. Sanjay Bhatia, vice chairman and managing director said this will bring transparency as information will be available on the website and also will act as a back-up. "We are also planning to introduce Geographical Information System (GIS) and SAP in Cidco to bring more transparency and fasten the works," added Bhatia.
