The Thane Police filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court in the CDR case on Wednesday. The cops took this action after the Bombay High Court rapped them for abruptly arresting celebrity lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui and directed the home department to conduct an inquiry against the errant officer.

The release of advocate Rizwan Siddiqui in the call data record (CDR) case left the Thane Police red faced. In a last minute face saving gesture, the cops are said to have filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the apex court.
"Yes, the SLP has been filed and the matter will come up for hearing on April 6," confirmed DCP Abhishek Trimukhe, Zone 1, Thane.

Siddiqui, who is a lawyer for celebrities like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kangana Ranaut, Ayesha Shroff, was arrested from his residence by Thane Crime Branch Unit 1 on March 16. Siddiqui is said to have obtained the CDR of Nawazuddin's wife from Prashant Palekar of Globe Detective Agency, who was arrested in CDR racket on January 24.
