Cable operator help cops solve Kandivli share trader’s murder case

The Kandivli police on Friday claimed to have solved murder mystery of 65-year old share trader Devendra Doshi and have arrested one person in the city, who another is wanted. Robbery, said the police, was motive behind the murder.

The arrested person has been identified as Rajkot resident Nikunj Polara, 24. Polara, a high-school dropout has goot knowledge in agriculture and takes contracts to grow crops in farms at Gujarat and Maharashtra.

According to the police, Doshi stayed alone in Pratik Housing society in a 2BHK flat. On December 10, Polara had visited his acquaintance, who had been working as a masseuse for Doshi since past four years. On the fateful day, they visited Doshi’s residence and had meal given by Doshi.

The masseuse had introduced Polara to Doshi was a businessman and pretending to buy his jewellery, they tricked Doshi to show his jewellery and cash (new notes). Later they attacked Doshi with a hammer and then slit his throat and fled with the valuables. A cloth was stashed in his mouth. When Doshi’s family could not contact him, they showed up at his flat, only to find that he has been killed.

A cable operator, identified only as Vikas, approached the police and informed them that on the day when Doshi was killed, he had met Doshi at his residence. “As per Vikas, when Polara and his accomplice visited Doshi’s flat, the latter asked him to come later as he wanted to meet Polara and his accomplice. They sat engaged Doshi in a conversation for nearly four hours, ate food and after finding an opportunity they killed him”, said a Kandivli police officer.

Images of the suspects were were recorded in a CCTV camera of a Jewellery store outside the building and in another camera which was installed by a public representative on the main road.

Assistant Police Commissioner, Shrirang Nadgauda, said, “The duo had fled with three cellphones of the deceased and later threw them away. However, other valuables kept in the cupboard were not stolen by them”.

Meanwhile the Kandivli police will conduct the identification parade of the accused before the cable operator, watchman who had also seen the duo on the day of the incident in the building and the family members of Doshi.

“Polara has admitted of having committed the crime. He was produced at Borivli court and has been remanded to ten days police custody. One person is wanted in the case. We are yet to ascertain the amount of valuables stolen and are yet to recover the stolen property”, said Nadgauda.
