Businessman held for sexually abusing minor at Vikhroli

A 53-year-old businessman has been arrested by the Parksite police on charges of sexually abusing an 11-year old in Vikhroli.

According to the police, victim and accused hail from the same village in Mysore and are distant relatives. She was brought to the city a month ago, and since then has been living with relatives of the accused in the city and works as a domestic help.

"The accused lives with his brother and his family in Amrut Nagar, Ghatkopar (W). He works in an industrial unit run by his brother. Around four days ago, the accused's brother and his family had gone to Gujarat. Since only the accused and the victim were alone at home, the businessman seized the opportunity, stripped the girl and sexually abused her," said an officer from Parksite police station, adding that the accused had also threatened the victim not to tell anyone about the incident.

However, the victim confided in a girl living in her neighborhood, who in turn informed the police. The olice swung into action and arrested the accused immediately. The girl was sent to Rajawadi hospital where her medical examination was done on Monday.

"We have arrested the accused under sections 376 (rape), 506 (II) (criminal intimidation), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Accused was produced before the court and was remanded to police custody up to November 1," said Sakpal.
