A day after Kalyan resident Naeem Tandel received an anonymous phone call, allegedly from Turkey, claiming that his son Aman—one of four youths from Kalyan who had travelled to Iraq in May 2014 and joined the Islamic State (IS)—had been 'martyred' in an aerial strike in Iraq, relatives of Fahad Shaikh, one of boys in the group, said on Tuesday that they have lost all hope of his return to Kalyan.

In May 2014, Fahad, Aman, Areeb Majeed and Saheem Tanki left their homes in Kalyan and travelled to Iraq under the pretext of visiting shrines in Baghdad, and had then joined ISIS in Syria.

Majeed returned to India in November 2014 and was arrested by the NIA. Fahad's sister said he was unlikely to return as he was aware that Areeb had been languishing behind bars since his return to India.
