Bohra spiritual leader Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin highlighted the importance of the Holy Quran to the community and asked community members to have at least one Hafiz (a person who has committed the entire Quran to memory) in every Muslim household.

The leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community was counseling the members in Surat while celebrating his 74th birthday. He also spoke to the members about maintaining a healthy work-life balance to improve overall well-being.

"Respecting family values, maintaining peace and harmony among fellow citizens, proper upbringing of children and helping the less fortunate were some of the other teachings covered by Syedna in his sermon. More than 32,000 Dawoodi Bohras from all across the world gathered in Surat to listen to this sermon," said Mufaddal Shakir, community spokesperson.

"Besides enhancing various mental and cognitive abilities, memorisation of the Quran is also believed to nourish one's soul and remain a constant source of blessing. It constitutes the foundation of all forms of knowledge in Muslim belief thus the memorisation of such a text encourages one to delve deeper into a subject of his or her choice," said another spokesperson from the community.

"This movement goes beyond students of the community's seminary or those dedicated to the pursuit of religious knowledge. His Holiness' message has been embraced by individuals from all walks of life," added Shakir.
