A 27-year-old Bhandup resident suffered severe injuries on his leg when an unidentified driver of a BMW and a youth on a high-end sports bike caused an accident. The Rabodi police have booked three persons for the accident.
The victim, Hemant Kadam was rushed to Thane civil hospital for treatment of severe injuries on his leg. The BMW car with registeration number 1077 and the bike (MH 03 CJ 3160) were racing on the Eastern Expressway on the Mumbai to Nashik lane when the car driver braked urgently, leading to the truck behind him (MH 04 HD 5751) losing control. The driver in a bid to avoid collision with the car lost control and hit Kadam.
“The injured person is recuperating in the hospital and has suffered severe injuries on his legs. We are checking the CCTV camera footage of the highway to identify the biker and the BMW car driver,” said a Rabodi police officer.
“The truck driver has been identified and we will seize the vehicle. The car driver along with the biker managed to escape before the passersby and the police teams reached the spot to help the victim”, said the officer.
Kashinath Chavan, Senior Inspector, Rabodi police station said, “We have registered the case under sections 279(rash driving) and 338(endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal code and under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.”
“The car driver and the biker are often spotted racing on the Eastern Express Highway. We will identify the duo and arrest them, ” said Chavan.
