On the line of KEM Hospital, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC ) has decided to develop an accommodation facility for the families of TB patients at Sewri Hospital. This will have facilities for stay of 50 persons with washroom and other facilities.
The BMC's stay facility in KEM Hospital receives good response as it is occupied most of the day.
TB patients from across the state for their treatment and many of them are required to admit. However, patients' family members face difficulty while staying as cost of living in Mumbai is very high. "We will take a nominal charge of Rs 50 to Rs 100 per day," said Kishore Desai, assistant commissioner of F South ward of BMC.
According to Desai, TB is contaminated easily and so, patients' family cannot reside within hospital premises. "This is safety for patients' family members to stay out of the hospital," said Desai. He added that the facility will be available in the next six months time. The Sewri TB hospital receives over 30,000 patients across the year.
