A 22-year-old youth died while two others were left injured in an accident involving three motor-cycles in a dimly lit spot near Bandra Reclamation on Sunday night.

According to the police, the accident took place around 9.45 pm. Abhijeet Gurav (22) and his friend Tushar Paage had gone to Bandstand and on the way back, Gurav stopped the motorcycle on the northern side of Reclamation Point as Paage wanted to attend nature's call.

“Within minutes, another bike, ridden by one Zafar Sheikh, came from behind and hit Gurav. Gurav sustained a grievous head injury and died in the hospital during treatment. Sheikh's bike skidded after the collision and caught fire. He too was injured in the mishap,” said senior police inspector Pandit Thackeray of Bandra police station.

He added, minutes later, another biker, Akash Rajput, skidded off the road when he applied brakes after seeing the accident scene. “He too was injured. Sheikh and Rajput, both college students, were admitted to the hospital for treatment. There is no way that the bikers were indulging in racing or were performing stunts on the bikes at the time of the incident as the area where the mishap took place witness regular movement of vehicles. We have registered a case of rash driving against Sheikh,” said Thackeray.
