A month after being in Wadia Hospital, the girl from Palghar who was rejected by her parents, was given a discharge on Wednesday. The girl, who was born on May 30 to Mamta Dode (25), was taken care of by her grandfather, 50-year-old Dilip Dode. He had brought her to Wadia Hospital with the help of the Zee24Taas news channel on June 13.
Dr Minnie Bodhanwala, CEO of the hospital, said, "Our investigations concluded that she is a case of Primary Micrenencephaly- a neurodevelopmental disorder in which an infant's head is significantly smaller than the heads of other children of the same age. She had extremely low birth weight with Intrauterine Growth Retardation. The incidence of similar diseases is 0.5 per 1000 live births."
Intrauterine Growth Retardation (IUGR) is a chromosomal abnormality. It refers to the condition resulting in growth retardation at birth.
Dr Bodhanwala added that when the girl was brought to the hospital, she had an infection which was aggressively treated. "Her head growth is similar to that of a 26-week-old foetus. At the time of birth, she weighed 800 gm," said Bodhanwala. A team of 20 doctors at the hospital monitored her. She was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit and assessed by neonatologists, sonologists, cardiologists, and neurologists.

Dode is happy to take his granddaughter home. "I am happy that the baby is being taken good care of. It has been a month that we are away from home and now that she is stable, I am taking her home," he told dna. The Wadia hospital has asked him to bring the baby in for a follow-up after 3 months.
