In a tragic accident which occurred in the wee hours of Saturday, a 26-year-old man lost his life after a heated argument with the rickshaw driver over eight rupees change. As the driver didn't have the change, he tried to speed away. However, since the youth was holding the rickshaw, it fell on him, resulting in his death, the police said. As per the deceased's father, his son had a dream to fly and hence he had gone to Goa to fly back to Mumbai. After alighting at the airport, he took an auto to reach home but entered in an argument with the rickshaw driver, which resulted in this unfortunate incident.

The deceased person has been identified as Chetan Archnikar, a resident of Vikhroli.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 1.30am on Saturday when rickshaw driver Kamlesh Prasad Mishra (46) dropped Chetan in Vikhroli from the domestic airport.

Complainant and Chetan's father Ganpat (55) told the police that Chetan had a dream of travelling on an aeroplane at least once. In order to fulfil his dream, on July 22 morning, Chetan boarded a train for Goa and on the same day he boarded a fight from Goa to Mumbai. On July 23 he arrived at Santa Cruz domestic airport and took rickshaw from airport for home. Since he was short of cash, he took Rs200 after coming home around 1.30am and went down to pay his fare of Rs172 to the driver."

"After sometime when Chetan did not return, I went down to check on him and saw that he was arguing with the driver as the latter was not having change of Rs8. The driver had paid Chetan Rs 20 and had told him that he would pay him the remaining Rs8 later, but Chetan kept on arguing for the remaining money. I too told Chetan to let him go, but he did not budge. Chetan had held the metal rod of the rickshaw and the driver started to drive ahead. At this point, the rick fell on Chetan. With the help of neighbours, Chetan was rushed to Godrej Hospital in Vikhorli where he was declared dead before admission. Later, his body was sent to the Rajawadi Hospital for post-mortem," Ganpat told the police in his statement.

"We have arrested the Mishra under section 304 (Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced before a local court, which remanded him in judicial custody till July 30," said police sub-inspector Asharam Chavan of Vikhorli police station.
