A month after arresting two people in a drug smuggling case, the Azad Maidan unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) on Friday has arrested a 55-year-old film producer from Delhi. The alleged accus ed, identified as Yadvindar Basrav also known as Pinky (55) is a producer-director in the Punjabi film industry. According to the ANC officials, they are suspecting the involvements of others in the Punjabi film industry as well.

On February 12, the ANC had arrested two people identified as Sunil Dhutia (41) and Vicky Nadar (26) with one kilogram of Mephedrone (MD)- also known as M-CAT - White Magic and meow meow and a Mahindra XUV 500.

The total seizure was worth Rs 30 lakh. The ANC suspected that Dhutia, who owns an international courier company, was to supply the drugs abroad.

According to an ANC official, in his statement during the interrogation, Dhutia revealed that he purchased the drugs from Basrav. After which the police kept a watch on Basrav, who originally hails from Punjab and set
-up a surveillance on his mobile phone.

“We had a tip off that Basrav was in a hotel in New Delhi and hence, we set up a trap to nab him. We have seized four mobile phones along with a couple of sim cards” added the official.

Another official added that during interrogation, Basrav revealed that he had purchased the drugs from Yatin Sanghvi who was arrested by the Ghatkopar unit of the ANC last month along with three others with 2.4
kilogram of MD worth Rs 48 lakh. Sanghvi too hails from Punjab. The ANC is now interrogating if the syndicate has an involvement of others in the Punjabi film industry and if Basrav was using courier to circulate drugs.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anti Narcotics Cell, Shivdeep Lande added, “Police Inspector Santosh Bhalekar and his team produced Basrav in the Esplande court has remanded Basrav to police custody till March 15.”
