Two days after the Class 12 Marathi paper leaked on WhatsApp minutes before the exam, the Secretarial Practice (SP) paper surfaced on the instant messaging application minutes before the exam began on Saturday.

Images of the paper were reportedly doing the rounds on WhatsApp at about 10.47 am on Saturday, 13 minutes before the exam could start (11 pm). A total of 11.34 lakh students from the Mumbai divisional board, which includes Thane, Palghar and Raigad, appeared for the exam. DNA had reported (in its March 4 issue) that several purported versions of the SP paper were doing the rounds on WhatsApp on Friday evening. However, the board denied the rumours.

The board, however, confirmed that the paper circulated on Friday matched the one given out to students appearing for the exam. "We received an image that was circulated on WhatsApp minutes before the exam. After comparing both papers, they were found to be identical. The board has registered a complaint in this matter," said Dattatray Jagtap, Chairperson, Mumbai divisional board.

Jagtap, however, ruled out the possibility of a re-examination, saying the paper was circulated after students entered the examination hall.

Narendra Bhambwani, the whistleblower in both cases, said copies of the Physics paper were also doing the rounds on a number of WhatsApp groups a few minutes after the exam had begun. However, the board denied that the Physics paper was leaked.

Bhambwani said the question paper may have been circulated to a large number of students as the WhatsApp group it was circulated in was a 'WhatsApp Invite Group'.

Therefore, anyone could have joined without requiring an administrator to add them. According to sources, the group was earlier called 'HSC paper leaks', but was later renamed to 'HSC students'.

The Navi Mumbai police on Saturday evening released a statement pertaining to the case, saying: "We have registered a second FIR on the complaint of HSC Kokan division under the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board and other specified Examinations Act, 1982, and section 66A of the IT Act. Three teams of five officers have been sent to Mumbai to investigate the matter".
