Recently, a 29-year-old man had paid Rs1,000 after having dinner in a hotel in Matunga. After close inspection, the manager realised that one serial number was different from the other on the note. He then alerted the police and got the man who had given the fake note apprehended.

Once the police arrested the man, they recovered fake notes of Rs37,000 from his possession. Later, his interrogation led to the arrest of a Grant Road-based woman from whose possession the police recovered another bunch of fake notes of Rs38,000. The notes were of Rs1,000, Rs500 and Rs100 denominations. The duo has told the police that the notes were smuggled into the city from Malda in West Bengal.

According to the police, Noorsalim Badruddin Sheikh, a resident of Nalasopara, visited Royal Hotel near RAK Marg in Matunga on Sunday for dinner. After having dinner, he gave a Rs1,000 note to the hotel manager to pay off his bill.
