Even as state forest department would be all out putting a brave front on the World Tiger Day being observed on Friday, listing some of its major achievements on Tiger conservation, sources in the department state that the top brass remains shaken and worried about Tigers Jai and his son Shrinivas.

While Jai's presence remains completely uncomfirmed despite a former sarpanch claiming to have sighted a 'Big Tiger' that the he assumes to be Jai, the only silver lining for the forest department has been a report about location of his son Shrinivas, who has also been radio collared and was not being spotted in Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary (UKWS) for almost close to three weeks, now raising a huge scare.

MS Reddy, chief conservator of forests (CCF) and project director of the Pench Tiger Reserve confirmed that Shrinivas, an offspring of Jai and tigress T3 or "Fairy", was traced to Sindewadi based on tracking of radio collar signals.

"It has not been sighted ocularly (by eyes) but we know it is moving," said Reddy, noting that Srinivas, a male who was born in the Umred Karhandla wildlife sanctuary had become an adult and was moving to other areas like Sindewadi (in Chandrapur).

He added that the radio collar was unable to send signals to the satellite by GPS because of thick bushes, vegetation and cloud cover in the monsoons. This had led to radio collar contact being snapped. Srinivas, who is aged around three years, had left the Umred Karhandla wildlife sanctuary about a month ago.

Officials noted that Umred Karhandla, which has an around 190 sq km area, had seven males, which was above its carrying capacity, which could have led some like Srinivas to move out to new territory.
