Vinod Sharma, a 32-year-old man, who was injured in a mishap at  Churchgate Railway Station on May 13, 2010, has been awarded compensation of over Rs 1 crore by the Western Railways (WR).

The order, which was passed by the Apex consumer commission in January 2017, was executed by the WR, where a cheque was drawn upon the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) by the Railway Ministry dated April 5, 2017.

The commission had directed the WR to pay a compensation of over Rs 68 lakh. The current compensation amount of Rs 1,04,70, 915 was given to Sharma after calculation of interst rate.

Sharma had suffered 100 per cent disability in an accident, when a wooden plank fell on his head while he was on a platform at Churchgate Railway Station. The incident caused him grievous brain injury and multiple skull fractures with spontaneous unconsciousness. He remained admitted at a Mumbai hospital from May 13, 2010 to September 9, 2010, for brain and skull surgery.

The state commission, while passing its orders, had ruled that Sharma was not in a position to do any work and his functional disability was 100 per cent, after perusing a report by a panel of doctors appointed by the state commission to examine Sharma.
