The state Education Minister Vinod Tawde has clarified in a press statement on Thursday that students appearing for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) board examinations will not be deprived of filling their board examination forms or sitting for the exam if they do not provide their Aadhaar card number.

This comes after the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) had issued a circular in 2016 making it compulsory for students to provide their Aadhaar card number while filling board examination form.

The minister clarified that no student will be stopped from filling the board examination form or to appear for the examination this year. The statement states that Aadhaar number is used to provide different concessions to the students in their education after the HSC exam. If students don't provide the Aadhaar number, they will have to give an undertaking that they will provide the same before board examination results.

In 2016, MSBSHSE Chairman Gangadhar Mhamane cited that most students fail in class 9 and while some don't appear for board examination, others appear privately.

Hence the In order to track whether these students appear for the examination privately or not the government want Aadhaar card number of all the students appearing for SSC and HSC board examination as well. That is the reason schools were asked to make sure to insert their Aadhaar number in the board examination form.
