Residents of Gundecha Valley of Flowers Complex, a society at Thakur Village in Kandivli, have chosen a unique way to express their devotion for Lord Shiva during the ongoing Shravan Mass. Considered to be an auspicious month, the complex has created a seven feet tall Shiva Linga made of 61,000 original paanch mukhi rudraksha. It has been made in particular for the Shiv Puran that the complex is conducting from August 7 to August 14.

Mukesh Shastri — an astrologer who is also a resident of Valley of Flowers society — prepared the Shiv Linga. It took him around nine days to build it for the week-long preyer session.

The Shiv Puran is a seven-day affair with each day celebrating one of the important aspects of Lord Shiva's life. The day starts with Rudra Abhishek (ritualistic ablution of the Lord) from 6.30am to 8am followed by an aarti. A second and third Rudra Abhishek is held between 8.30 and 10.30 or 10.30 to noon so that everyone can get a chance to offer prayers. At 3 pm, a Katha is held followed by an aarti at 7.30 pm.

The opening ceremony was held of Sunday wherein the Shiv Linga was established for the pooja. Pothi Puja otherwise also known as Kalash puja was held on the second day.

On Tuesday, they will conduct a special play showing the event of how Shiva Linga came into existence. They have made a special arrangement for this play by calling a makeup man to give it a proper feel. Characters in the play will be played by the residents.

Similarly, a play marking the marriage of Shiva and Parvati and a play showing the story of Ganapati's birth will held on Wednesday and Thursday for the devotees. On August 13, a puja of all the 12 jyortirlinga will be held followed by a grand Laghu Rudra Yag and on the following day, a bhandara will be organised for the devotees.
