9 killed, 13 hurt on Manmad-Malegaon highway

The impact of the accident was such that the van was crushed and five of a family travelling in it and four others died instantly. The family was returning home after a pilgrimage to Ajmer Darga. Among the killed were three children.

Five of a family and four other people were killed and 13 others got injured when three vehicles collided with each other on the Manmad-Malegaon highway at midnight on June 10.

A Maruti van was caught in between a truck and a tempo which collided with each other near Kundalgaon village near Chondi ghat on the highway. The truck was moving in the direction of Malegaon and the van was trailing behind it. A tempo coming from the opposite direction collided with the truck and the van, which just at the moment attempted to overtake the truck, was caught in between the two bigger vehicles.

The impact of the accident was such that the van was crushed and five of a family travelling in it and four others died instantly. The family was returning home after a pilgrimage to Ajmer Darga. Among the killed were three children.

The deceased have been identified as Atiq Ramzan Tamboli (35), Naaz Atiq Tamboli (14), Saiyana Nisar Tamboli (8), Tanveer Nisar Tamboli (6) — all from Manmad; Haseena Rashid Tamboli (60) from Kolpewadi Kopargaon, Arif Mohammed Farooq (40) and Abdul Kuttus Mohammed Shami (50), Prashant Suresh Khairnar (driver) — all from Malegaon and Vishal Ganesh Shete (36) from Dhule.

The injured were taken to hospitals in Manmad, Malegaon and Dhule. While the driver of the van died on the spot, the driver of the truck is absconding. The police have registered a case.
