77 out of 125 Zilla Parishad schools located in Kalyan taluka do not have working electricity connections. Students are sitting in the dark to study, alleged Anil Bornare from Shikshak Parishad. The Parishad has demanded government take action against the education officer who neglected to pay the electricity bill for these schools.

Anil Bornare, President of Shikshak Parishad, Mumbai region said, "Electricity bills of almost Rs17 lakh for these schools are pending because of which there is no electricity in 125 schools. This is violation of Right to Education. We demand action against the education officer who was negligent in not paying the electricity bill."
When dna contacted Meena Yadav, the education officer of the primary section in Thane, she said, "There are 125 Zilla Parishad schools in Kalyan. But it is not true that all schools do not have electric supply. I do not have the data right now, about how many schools are not getting electric supply and for how long. Within three days, I am going to gather this information and present it before the government. The education department has given the state government a proposal for a grant for solar panels. In this way, electricity can be used as per requirements. The reason why the bills were not paid is that we started getting excessive bills from the electricity department. The maintenance grant that we got was not enough to pay the bills for the schools."
