A 65-year-old woman was assaulted allegedly by her grandson and his wife over a property row in Goregaon (east). Victim Kalavati Devi owns a room in Bajrang Nagar area and had been living there for 40 years. She was attacked with a hammer when she recently returned to the house.

In her complainant to Vanrai police, Kalavati said that ever since her husband's death a few years ago, her sons were pressing her to leave the place. One of her sons had forcibly taken her signature on some forged document and was trying to get the property transferred in his name.

When Kalavati refused to part with the room, his family mistreated her and didn't allow her stay there. A few days ago, her grandson, Chandrashekar Yadav, 32, and his wife Pramila, 28, assaulted her with a hammer and injured her when she came back to live there.

"They allegedly threatened to kill her if she did not leave the house. We arrested the accused on Wednesday," said an officer. The couple has been booked under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
