Step aside Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra CM role may just land up with senior leader Nitin Gadkari. According to reports, around 40 BJP MLAS landed up at Gadkari's house to persuade him to take up Chief Ministers post after the party won with a major margin in the assembly elections.

Sudhir Mungantiwar, a former chief of Maharashtra BJP has said that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari who hails from Nagpur should be appointed as Chief Minister of the state where BJP emerged as the major party in the polling  held on October 15.

Around 40 MLAs on Tuesday have gathered at residence of Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur and are requesting him to return in the state politics as Chief Minister of Maharashtra as reported by various publications.

The report further adds that Home Minister Rajnath Singh and JP Nadda were likely to visit the state as observers to discuss all the aspects of government formation in the state. However, on Tuesday, the Home Minister clarified that he will be visiting the state after Diwali.

After winning the elections, BJP is not in a hurry to form the government and wants the former ally Shiv Sena to offer full support without any conditions. Before elections, it was Devendra Fadnavis who was the frontrunner from BJP for the candidate's post.

In an earlier interview, Nitin Gadkari had said that he is happy in New Delhi which had put a full stop on all such speculations indicating him as next CM of the state. But again, on Tuesday, Mungantiwar who is known as a close aide of Gadkari, said, “We all have urged Nitin Gadkari to return to Maharashtra as Chief Minister.”

In addition to this, supporters of Gadkari in RSS and the party have started spreading an SMS which contains a message in support of the Union leader.

In Maharashtra, no party got clear majority to form government, however, the BJP emerged as the major party with 123 seats, 22 seats away from the magic number.
