Three-year-old Zoya Khan has become synonymous with a miracle after having survived an accident where two wheels of a car rolled over her. The miracle has become more prominent for the girl's family as it happened in the month of Ramzan. The entire accident was captured on a CCTV camera put up in the area.

The Khan family stays on the premises of Rehnuma School. Zoya's father Muzzafar works as a watchman there.

The youngest of three daughters, Zoya was running after her mother around 3pm on June 18 on Ashoka Marg in Wadala, when, unaware of the oncoming vehicles, she dashed into a car. With her face flat on the ground, the vehicle's front wheel went over her and, before the driver could brake, she came under the rear wheel too. Zoya's mother Shirin rushed to pick her up and then she and the driver took her to the nearby Chaitanya hospital.

Zoya got medical attention within the first 15 minutes of the accident, with a physician, paediatrician and an orthopaedic surgeon looking after her for about a month. She was discharged two days back in good health.

While the family believes it was "the blessing and protection of Allah in the holy month", it has also thanked the doctors who looked after the girl.

When Zoya was taken to the hospital in a semi-conscious state, she did not show any external injuries. The doctors, however, took a prompt decision to check her completely and found that the accident had injured her liver, lungs, ribs and kidney. But the challenge increased when the doctors found out that her blood group is A-negative. Any surgical intervention would have meant blood loss and providing A-negative blood to a three-year-old was not only challenging but risky.

The team of doctors comprising general surgeon Abhinandan Jadhav, paediatric surgeon Bhushan Borole, intensivist Nitin Pardeshi and orthopaedic surgeon Ashwin Parkhe decided to go for conservative treatment.

"Her subsequent CT scans after 48 and 72 hours showed that she was responding. She was given antibiotics and fluid replacement. We were very happy when she went home," said Pardeshi.

After praying for her recovery day and night, Shirin said she observed fast till Zoya was out of danger and had food only after her daughter started responding to the treatment.

The family did not press charges against the vehicle driver who helped by bearing the medical expenses.
