Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of city police recently arrested three for misappropriating foreign currency and cash worth Rs3.87 crore of their employer.

The arrested trio has been identified as Dilip Deshmukh, 45, Kamlesh Kanjar, 39, and Girish Ghadge, 33. According to the police, the crime allegedly occurred between December 1 and December 21, 2011. The complainant has foreign exchange business at Opera House.

Deshmukh had been working at complainant's company as cashier-cum-accountant since 1996, while Kanjar and Ghadge assisted him. "Deshmukh had possession of keys throughout the day and he would give it to the complainant only after locking the office," said a police officer.

Police added that on December 21, 2011, when the complainant conducted an audit of foreign currency and cash, he learnt about the misappropriation of foreign currency and cash worth Rs3.87 crore.

A complaint was then registered in this regard at DB Marg police station in January 2012, and in March 2015, the case was transferred to EOW for further probe. "Our probe revealed that Deshmukh, Kanjar and Ghadge conspired to commit misappropriation of money. The trio had also forged the accounts of the company's stock book," the officer said.
