29 calls since fire engines parked in park

The BMC fire department has decided to develop a fire station in Priyadarshini Park as the area doesn't have one, and often, a delay in reaching the incident site has cost lives as well as property loss.

While the MHCF has been opposing BMC's plan to set up a fire station in Priyadarshini Park, the fire engines stationed near the park have already attended 29 Level-1 and Level-2 fire calls since June 22, 2017.

Hemant Parab, deputy chief fire officer, Zone 1 of Mumbai Fire Brigade said that of the total 29 calls received by the makeshift fire station set up in the park until October 6, twelve calls were of fire incidents, six for rescue operations and nine for other services which include attending to a tree fall and controlling oil spoilage.

"We have received 11 calls from Napean Sea Road alone," said an official from the current fire brigade set up.

"We have also planned a fire safety training centre where school children will be trained free of cost," added the official.

According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, in the past five years, it has already responded to 495 fire incident calls from Napean Sea Road which houses many high-rise buildings.
