2 students hurl firecrackers at cops for ‘fun’

Two students have been arrested by the Nagpada police on Saturday for allegedly throwing firecrackers on two policemen outside the police control room in south Mumbai. The accused have been identified as Hannan Sheikh, 23, and Sayed Rehman, 23, residents of Byculla.

According to the police, the incident took place early on Saturday when the two constables, Madhukar Gaykar and Ravindra Khare, were posted at the south region control room in Nagpada. The two youths were riding past the office gates on a two wheeler when the pillion rider hurled a live sutli bomb at Gaykar before fleeing the spot. The constables were not harmed.

“During questioning, they said that they had hurled the firecracker for fun and they did not want to hurt the officers,” said a police officer from Nagpada Police Station. Both the accused were later released by the holiday court on a cash bond of Rs 15,000.
