2 conservancy workers die in Kandivli sewerage line

Two conservancy workers employed by a private contractor of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) died while laying a sewerage line at Kandivli (E) on Monday afternoon.

The deceased conservancy workers have been identified as Mehboob Balaswami Kumari, 40, and Kari Karnappa Narsimha, 30, both were staying in the slums of Kandarpada in Dahisar and natives of Telangana.

According to senior police inspector Dilip Yadav of Samat Nagar police station, on Monday around 3pm Mehboob and Kari, two workers of private BMC contractors were working on laying off a BMC sewerage line at Thakur complex in Kandivli (e) near Cambridge school.

"While one of the worker who went inside died on the spot after inhaling poisonous gas, the other one who was holding a rope above in an attempt to check, bend down too much and fell in the pipeline accidentally," said a civic official.

"Both of them were taken out by the fire brigade staff and were sent for medical treatment but doctors declared them dead around 5 pm. After panchnama we recorded statements of witnesses and registered accidental death cases in the matter," said Yadav.
