Tata Motors sells 47,573 units in February

Tata Motors sold 47,573 vehicles in February, up 2% compared to the 46,674 units sold in the same period last year, on the back of high demand for the Tiago, the carmaker said in a statement on Wednesday.

Tata Motors sold 47,573 vehicles in February, up 2% compared to the 46,674 units sold in the same period last year, on the back of high demand for the Tiago, the carmaker said in a statement on Wednesday. 

In the domestic market, the carmaker's total sales (commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles) was 42,679 units, up 3% compared to the 41,532 units sold in the same period last year. 

Passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 12,272 units, a growth of 12% compared to the same period last year, on continued strong demand for the Tata Tiago. "The company also received an encouraging response to its recently launched lifestyle UV, the Tata Hexa."

Tata Motors sold 30,407 units of commercial vehicles, down 1% over February 2016. The carmaker said, "The MHCV Cargo segment demand has picked up due to pre-buying on account of expected price increase led by BS IV implementation from April 1." 

It sold 15,031 M&HCVs in February, a growth of 1% from last year. "TML Bus sales continued to grow by 30% in February 2017, driven particularly by STU orders, supported by Intercity and Staff Application segments. Demand from schools is also gaining momentum." Tata Motors said. 

It exported 4,894 units in February 2017, down 5% compared to 5,142 units in February last year. 

On a annual basis, cumulative sales which included exports was at 485,415 units in FY17, up 6% compared to 458,648 units sold in the year-ago period. Passenger vehicle sales in the full year stood at 1,37.718 units, up 17% compared to 1,17,560 units in the previous year. Cumulative exports for the fiscal was at 58,362 units, up 13% over 51,679 units in the previous fiscal. 

On the BSE, Tata Motors' shares were trading at Rs 449.10, down Rs 7.05 or 1.55% from previous close.
