The Dwarka-Noida line faced trouble early morning and was rectified at around noon.
Services on Delhi Metro's Blue Line were affected twice in a span of five hours on Wednesday due to signalling glitches as commuters faced difficulties in the network's busy corridor that stretches over 50 km. The metro's Dwarka-Noida line faced trouble first during the busy morning hours due to "recurrent Track Circuit drop" (signalling issue) at Dwarka, hindering movement of trains approaching from Noida and Dwarka sides.
It was rectified around 12.10 PM but it took time for normalcy to be restored as the snag had led to bunching of trains, a metro official said. "Usually it takes me around 25 minutes to reach Rajiv Chowk from Mayur Vihar Phase I station. Today it took more than an hour to travel the same distance, that too in an overcrowded coach as it happened to be a rush hour," a commuter said. Train services on Blue Line were again affected at 5:14 PM due to "signalling identification issue" of trains. "As a result, gradually all trains were given IDs afresh from the control centre one by one manually which led to minor bunching of trains. In this signalling identification issue, view and control of trains were lost by OCC (Operation Control Centre) when there was a tripping of signalling server. Then this re-issue of train IDs took place to bring them back under OCC control," the official said.
All train identification have been restored and the service has been resumed, she said, adding it took about one hour to restore services. On January 3, thousands of commuters were left stranded as services crawled for several hours on the Blue Line due to issues in overhead wiring between Pragati Maidan and Mandi House stations. The two branches of Blue Line (Line 3/4), that have gained considerable infamy due to frequent snags, connect Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida City Centre and Vaishali. With around five interchange stations along its length, around 30 per cent of the total passenger volume or around 12 lakh commuters travel on Blue line of Delhi Metro on a daily basis.
