Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate a seminar on 'Digi dhan' here tomorrow, which is aimed at creating awareness among merchants and other sections of people about digital transactions.

Directorate of Information Technology of Puducherry government is organising the day-long seminar.

A release from the Directorate said here that Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry (Independent charge) Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate the seminar.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Pon Radhakrishan, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi and Chief Minister V Narayanasamy will also address the participants.

Puducherry is among the one hundred cities selected by the Centre to hold the seminar in association with the Puducherry e-governance Society.

The NITI Ayog and National Payments Corporation of India are providing the guidelines to hold the meet, the release said.

"The mela is an initiative to generate awareness among the people and also merchants on various digital payment channels including `Unified Payment Interface (UPI), Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS), Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and Rupay Cards," it said.

The benefits of the electronic mode of payment instead of cash would be highlighted at the seminar.

Petty vendors, traders, service providers and consumers would be brought on the same platform to educate them about the methods of cashless transactions and the modalities to get used to the services.

More than 25 stalls would be in place at the venue, marking the participation of the banks, oil marketing concerns, traders association, fertiliser companies, State and Central government departments, telecom companies, mobile wallet operators and cooperative banks.

The event will be held for eight hours from 10 a.m.
