Range Rover to unveil new luxury SUV Velar on March 1

Range Rover will be unveiling its new luxury SUV, the Velar on March 1, according a statement from Jaguar Land Rover India. 

The Velar will be the fourth member of the Range Rover family and will find seating between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport SUVs. 

The name Velar (pronounced vel-ar) dates back to the first Range Rover prototypes of the 60s, the pioneers of he luxury SUV landscape, JLR said. "When development engineers needed to hide the true identity of the 26 pre-production Range Rovers, they chose the name Velar, derived from the Latin word 'velare' meaning 'veil' or 'cover'," it said.

Commenting on the luxury SUV, Land Rover chief design officer, Gerry McGovern said, "We call the Velar the avant garde Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything."

JLR said it will announce the full details of the Range Rover Velar on March 1, 2017.
