Chennai floods: IndiGo cancels all flights to and fro Chennai till December 5

IndiGo has announced that it has cancelled all its flights that operate to and from Chennai till December December 5, 2015. 

In a release to the press it said that in the wake of the current situation in Chennai due to the severe rainfall, it has notified its passengers, families and other local partners on the cancellation of flight operations to and fro Chennai. 

It further said, "IndiGo's leadership is diligently monitoring the situation and is liaising with the local authorities, including The Airport Authority of India (AAI) to ensure all required protocols are followed for the resumption of flight operations."

The company added that this would include, safety inspection of the runway, tarmac, taxiways, serviceability status of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) communication system and the required landing aids.

"All our employees based in Chennai are safe. The leadership team is ensuring to maintain consistent communication with the local staff. 6E teams (from other stations) are jointly working to bring all resources together to be able to offer items of basic necessities and required medical aid - to our employees based in Chennai, and other affected people and families," the company said.  

IndiGo will operate additional flights on December 4, to accommodate passengers coming from Chennai through surface transport. The additional flights include 2 daily flights Bangalore-Mumbai to and fro, 1 flight Bangalore to Delhi and 1 flight Bangalore to Hyderabad to and fro. 

Passengers who reach Bangalore with valid tickets from Chennai, whose flights had got cancelled will be accepted without any additional charge or change fees or cancellation fees, IndiGo said. Additional flights will also enable IndiGo to transport food and other required items through cargo.

The airline has also planned to extended its support through the IndiGo Emergency Response Plan to people in Chennai.  

The company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) program called IndiGoReach once they resume flights to and fro Chennai will be under way. This would include a slew of measures planned to provide relief to the flood victims such as, delivery of basic necessities or relief materials to locals and employees and medical aid. 

IndiGo is also liaising with its NGO partners to ensure there is zero shortage of relief material that is being planned to be shipped to Chennai.
